The Convoy Operations Training And Simulation software
(C.O.T.A.S.)

Concept

Turn the Marine tactical convoy handbook into a series of educational training modules using proven game mechanics. (Real-time  Strategy, Puzzle, and single player & squad-based First Person  Shooter)

Work To Date

I found copies of the Marine and Army Convoy Manuals  online and read through them to determine which aspects would best be taught through gameplay.  I developed an outline of the learning modules, and collected a series of still and video assets to edit  together a teaser trailer.  I also wrote and recorded a voice over for  the video.

Voice-Over Script

“Welcome to C.O.T.A.S.”

“The Convoy Operations Training And Simulation software”

“Full scale Virtual Reality Simulation Units offer exciting opportunities, but they are limited by budgets and logistics.”

“COTAS exists to bring cutting edge training to every member of the team, When and Where they need it.”

“In the self paced interactive training each soldier will learn every step in the Troop Leading Procedures and their role in it.”

“Soldiers will learn key METT-TC Analysis of Mission, Enemy, Terrain and Weather, and troops and equipment.”

“They will learn to conduct reconnaissance through the use of  Stripmaps, On the Ground inspection, S2 or Engineer Imagery, and all of this training will be reinforced through the use of specifically  designed real world drills and “Mini-games”

“Once they’ve  completed their training, soldiers will be allowed to join the full  scale real time simulation.  In this squad based 3D mission simulator,  up to 16 soldiers can assume the different roles of the mission.”

    “With a web
connection, geography is no longer a limitation, new  recruits at home can train along side deployed troops in the field  connected with real-time voice and chat.”

“These missions,  based on real world environments, cover a variety of terrains and levels of engagements. Squads will encounter Sniper Fire, IED’s, Street  Demonstrations, Route Blockage, Weapons Malfunctions, Ambush, Vehicle  Breakdown, and more”

(Voice heard over radioset)

“It’s OH 800 and the convoy is a go… The route is clear and DesignMill is taking the lead”

Additional Thoughts

All the imagery above is from model sets that can be  purchased for a few thousand dollars.  To keep the budget small, I would suggest, starting there and augment as needed with in-house modelers.   You don't need to license the hottest game engine for a product like  this.  There are a number of solid 3D engines out there that are less  than $1000 that would more than fit the bill.

This product could fill a real need, and be a flashy marketing tool for DMI.
